Loretta is survived by daughter Jill (Greg) Melton; daughter Sherri Barnes; grandson Logan Melton; brothers Gene Dean of Chattanooga and Herman “Pap” Dean of Lafayette, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Loretta was born in Culberson, NC, to the late Herman and Hazel Dean, but spent her childhood years in Ducktown, TN. She was a graduate of Ducktown High School where she was a cheerleader and a basketball player. Loretta was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church for 32 years where she had served as a choir member and preschool teacher. She was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan, following football and basketball each season. Loretta retired in 2002 from a long career at Signal Mountain Cement Company.
Loretta’s passion was her family. She was the best friend of her daughters Jill and Sherri, her son (by marriage) Greg, and her grandson Logan. Each of them had a special relationship with Loretta, but none was more precious to her than her relationship with her “Handsome Devil” Logan. Loretta was also “mom” to countless others. She was a precious lady who touched the lives of many around her.
