Ronald M. Barrow

Ron was born in the Bronx, NY, the son of the late Joseph Barrow and Evelyn Rhoads. He graduated in 1958 with a BA in theology and history. Ron’s early career was spent in secondary education as a teacher, dean of boys, and vice principal at SDA boarding academies. He completed his Masters in 1968. That same year, Ron moved his family to Collegedale to serve as Principal of Collegedale Academy. He completed his Doctorate in 1978, then was hired by Southern Adventist University as Vice President of Enrollment Management where he served until his retirement in 1998. Ron was a very kind, caring person and was loved by his students, colleagues, and family. He especially enjoyed building projects and woodworking and was a stickler for precision and quality. Ron was a member of Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Barrow, a son, Gregory Barrow, and a brother, Richard Barrow.

Survivors include his three sons, Ronnie Barrow (Kitty), of Nashville, TN, Dr. Brent Barrow (Kim), of Ooltewah, TN, Doug Barrow (Beth), of McDonald, TN; seven grandchildren, Zack Barrow (Kalli), Dr. Joshua Barrow, Dr. Morgan Nedley (Nathan), Hannah Barrow, Savannah Barrow, Sydney Barrow, Ava Goetz; and a great granddaughter, Nora Colleen Nedley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4pm on October 18 at Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church, with Pastor Steven Grabiner officiating. The family will receive friends in the church atrium following the service.
