Joseph J Gatz Sr.

Joseph J. Gatz, a WWII and Korean War Navy Veteran, passed away the afternoon of Thursday, December 17th, at the age of 97. Beloved husband of 67 years to the late Genevieve Gatz (nee Potempa). Devoted father of Barbara (Lee), the late Frank (Marge), Joe Jr., Christine, and Steve (Cheryl). Proud grandfather of 13 and adored great-grandfather of 20. Brother to Teddy (the late Louise) and the late Marie (Ed), Bernice (Rudy), Johnny, Frankie, Josephine (Rob), Helen (Stanley), Anna-May (Roy), and Cookie (Ed). Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews. Friend to all.

Ever the kind, generous, and thoughtful man, Joseph always put the needs of his family before his own. Cracking jokes and making others smile were a few of his favorite pastimes, in addition to wrestling, scratch lottery tickets, and polka music. Even at the age of 97, Joe displayed such a beautiful zest for life.

Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60638 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Prayer service to be held at Ridge Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 9:15 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Daniel the Prophet Church (5300 S. Natoma Ave., Chicago, IL 60638) at 10:00 a.m. Interment immediately to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, IL.
