Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you if you saw my mom, my dad was by her side, and vice versa.
They were a pair in the truest form. I look upon them and know love defined. Love is
responsibility, unconditional love, and forgiveness. This is what Jose (Nat) and Maria (Maggie)
taught us. They instilled in their daughters a hard work ethic and lead by example that
nothing is impossible.
Jose was born to Jose Salinas and Wenseslada Monjaras in San Felipe,Guanajuato, MX who came to this country alone like many, in search of a better life and future. By chance, he settled in Chicago. It was in Chicago where he met his future wife Maria “Maggie” Gaitan, daughter of Francisca Montiel and Ramon Gaitan. They met after Jose walked out of a dance hall and saw my mother walking home from the store. He asked her if she knew of any dances around. My mom, dismissingly said, “Sure right over there.”, pointing to the hall my father had just exited. Six months later they were married and remained so for 49 years.
Nat and Maggie opened their home to their oldest of grandchildren, Alex, raising him more like
their son than grandson. Wherever they were, he wasn’t far behind. Their greatest joy was spending time with their family. On Sundays after attending mass at Good Shepherd Church in Chicago, they would then travel to a daughter's home to enjoy food and conversation. Maggie would bring over “treats” for her grandchildren. This was the planning day for the family. We would decide on birthdays, BBQs, and holiday plans.
Memories of love, laughter and the warmest hugs are etched in their family's hearts forever.
Their legacy will go on in their children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and good
friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ridgefh.com for the Salinas family.
