Veria Sue Gerhardt, born August 1, 1945, called home to be with the Lord on December 4, 2024. Lovingly greeted by her late husband, William "Billy Joe" Gerhardt, a handsome mailman who held her heart from the moment they met. Together, they spent a lifetime full of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their bond was one of deep affection and mutual respect, built over years of shared experiences, cherished moments, and a love that only grew stronger with time. Their love story was one for the ages, and now, after many years of togetherness, they are reunited, eternally by each other’s side.
Daughter to the late Gladys and Quinton Thompson. Dear sister to Linda "Kay" Messer, Judy (Javier) Flores, the late SGM US Army Robert Thompson, survived by his wife Ethylene, and the late Jerry, John, and Darrell Thompson.
Also welcomed by the father of her children, the late McArthur Messer. Veria was a cherished mother who poured her heart into raising her children with endless love, always guiding them with wisdom, compassion, and strength. She was immensely proud of each of her children—Sheila (Rick) Messer, Elicia (Michael) LaBarbera, the late Douglas (Tina) Messer, the late Linda "Susie" Lewis, Thomas (Susie) Gerhardt, and Susan (Nick) Meller.
An adored grandmother to George Hon, Dean (Paige) LaBarbera, Max LaBarbera, Suzanne (Brian) McNeela, Douglas (Ashley) Messer, Michael, Jamie, and Billy Messer, Lauren (Mike) Lewis, Rebecca Gerhardt and Anthony Meller. Sweet great-grandmother to Leyna, Ellie, Annaliese, Niamh, Liam, Mollie Sue, Makenzie, Madison, Ryder, and Owen.
As a mother, she instilled in her daughters and son the values of resilience, kindness, and compassion, shaping them into the individuals they are today. Her spirit, her laughter, and her lessons will continue to echo in the hearts of all who loved her. Though she may no longer walk among us, her influence will remain in the stories we share, the traditions we uphold, and the love we pass on to future generations. Veria Sue’s life was a testament to the power of family, the beauty of unconditional love, and the strength of a woman who faced life with grace, courage, and an open heart.
In keeping with her wishes, a private service will be held.
