My name is Judy Richardson and I am Chair of the Regional Board of Governors of CT Audubon Society Birdcraft Museum in Fairfield,CT. Frank Novak was our beloved caretaker and so much else for fifty years or more. He was caretaker for our founder, Mable O. Wright, who started the bird sanctuary because birds were being slaughtered for their plumes for hats at the turn of the century. She was responsible for helping to stop that, and for creating the Audubon Societies with Frank Chapman.

We were so sorry to hear the news of the passing of Avia as we hold dear the memory of the Novak family. Our deepest condolences to you all

When I think of Auntie Audie, I remember her laugh and the sound she made when she was surprised.. that audible deep breath in!   I have a big smile on my face writing this as I remember her doing that!  I don't think there was anyone who didn't love her to bits, she was just so special and FUN! In the early 70's when I was a teenager, I spent a great deal of time at the Schneider residence in Whittier, California.  I have so many fond memories of the beautiful, loving and welcoming home that Avia (Mrs. Schneider) created.  To this day, I am inspired by her artistic sense  when decorating my  own home. Her fun and welcoming attitude has made a difference in my life.

It is difficult to write about such a special person because I have so many happy memories to recall.

My favorite might be all the times we watched Wimbledon tennis together.  She would always wear the T-shirt she bought when we visited the actual venue in London, don her TV earphones and then happily watch hour after hour of the daily matches.

She had a special way of being interested in whatever we chatted about via phone and that same interest and enthusiasm was all showered on my children and even my grand children.

So thank you Auntie Adi for your sense of humor, your always bright outlook on life, for being such a large part of my own family and for being my friend. May God bless and keep you.

Auntie Avia accepted whatever was put in front of her with grace and dignity. She loved her family, both immediate and extended, fiercely. She and Uncle Joe had a very special relationship and even as a child, visiting their house in Whittier to swim in the (what seemed HUGE when you are a kid) pool, I could tell that they loved each other and respected each other.  She will be missed.

My favorite memory is Auntie Adi leading the Conga line at Mark & Liz's wedding in Charleston at age 93.  So Wilf wrote her at Christmas asking  if he could have a place on her dance card the next time we met.   She responded with great gusto assuring him, she'd save him a place.   She was someone we knew for almost 50 years.  She always made us feel welcome and loved.  We loved her, and know she is dancing in heaven.   With Love, Nancy and Wilf Bruschke

I will never forget my 85 year old aunt coming to visit me in London and getting such childlike joy at riding at the TOP of the double decker and then walking down the road on her own to go get us two beers for the evening. She stayed young but was never immature, she was always a firm favourite of mine and she will be missed greatly! Meg

Avia lived life to the fullest. She was a joy, intelligent, caring and full of faith. It is without doubt that she will live eternally. Grateful to have known her.

Carrie reminded me of a fun visit we had with A Adie and Gob Gob when Heidi was 6 months old. The two sisters were constantly outdoing each other as to how to look after Heidi and then spent two hours in the pool teaching her how to swim.

Avia's little light (which was really a very big one) has gone out here among all who loved and cherished her but she continues to shine very brightly in the eternal beyond.  Her joy and laughter will be greatly missed.  Suzi Brandt

Thank you all for you wonderful comments. What a privilege and how beautiful it has been to have Avia for a Mother. In her time in this realm she was a truly special human being blessed with her beloved family and upbringing in Fairfield Connecticut. Avia Regina radiated life and love to all who knew her as her family and friends provided a note-worthy counterpoint to her unique life and legacy as Artist.

Avia was such a delight and talent. We will cherish her memory always.

We hope we can be as vibrant, funny and connected when we reach Avia's age!  She was truly a gem and we cherish our memories of our parents getting together for birthdays and get-togethers. Your mom was a very special person who had so many great memories and experiences in her life and loved sharing them. I think we all miss out when we don't ask the older generation about their younger days.  She was warm and loving and interesting and loved the Lord with all her heart. Aunt Avia was fantastic to us kids as we were growing up.  I can remember playing with all the kids and climbing in the back tree at Aunt May and Uncle Mack.  Thanks for the fantastic memories!!!
