

Charles Woodrow Burnett was born on September 7, 1937 in Oklahoma and spent most of his childhood in Wyoming before joining the Navy at age 17 in 1955. He was stationed in Pensacola, Guam and Port Hueneme before coming to San Diego and meeting Rose Terrasi, a teacher. They married in 1959 and were stationed in Newfoundland, Canada where their daughter, Cheryl, was born. In 1963 he was transferred to the Atlantic Intelligence Center Norfolk, Virginia where they welcomed their daughter, Sheila. In August of 1969 he was transferred back to the Fleet Training Center, San Diego and stayed until he retired from the US Navy in August of 1974. Upon retirement he attended San Diego State University where he earned an MBA in Financial Management. He spent the next years as a stockbroker and later a branch manager for a regional brokerage firm.
Besides his family, his passion was his endless hours spent as a member of the U.S. Navy League. He held offices including Council President, California State President and National Director on the National Investments Committee. He also was a member of the Bonita Optimists Club, San Diego Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee and served as President of the Senior Center in Chula Vista.
He and Rose were married for 51 years before her death in 2011. He leaves behind his daughter Cheryl Dodds and her children Allison and Bradley, and his daughter Sheila Burke, son in law Jim, and their children Casey, Ryan and Meagan.
