We are often asked "How many brothers and sisters do you have?" I was able to brag about having a twin brother, Eldon and four other brothers Lyle, Lynn,John, and Jim, all of them veterans. And of course two wonderful sisters Doris and Ethel. Doris left from Clarinda, Iowa for Californa with her groom about the time Eldon and I were born. The family moved to Colorado in 1942. Eldon and I grew up hearing of the "adventures" in Iowa. I always regretted that Mom and Dad did not just go on to California instead of stopping in Colorado. I would have been able to gather more memories of Doris. I will always cherish the memories of visits to San Diego and the fun times Janet, Judy and Mike and I had. Especially going to the beach, I remember the red skirts that Doris made for Janet and I to wear to the Zoo. Doris was a great cook and took pride in her housekeeping and she and Dick loved to garden. Doris had several birds and dogs through the years that she loved. I wish I could remember the name she gave to her doll. She was a loving mother and her grandchildren adored her. I enjoyed our conversations about politics and Rush Limbaugh. Im sure she got that last vote in. I liked to tease her about the Padres she loved baseball. I try to visulize she and Ethel in the twenties and thirties..Getting ready for school and bathing with a pitcher and bowl of water. ironing with hot irons (?) and setting them where they did not belong, Doris driving around Clarinda collecting for money owed, dancing to the Big Band sound of the day she and Ethel always enjoyed that music. Well, this chapter of our family is over and now there is only three left and three sisters-in-law and the Good Lord will take us in time and leave our precious children and grand children to grieve. I pray that none have to lose one of these, please allow me to mention Ronny it seems appropiate to do so, he is with his aunt now.
    Someday we will all meet at suppertime.

Our memories do indeed become our most precious possessions!  The visits which Eldon mentioned in 2004 & 2005 are certainly in that category.  I'm looking right now at a picture of Doris, Eldon, Ethel, & Jim taken on that 2004 trip and they are all grinning ear to ear.  Such a fun time it was. Doris was a very unique individual - a personality of her very own.  We'll all miss that.  My thoughts and prayers are with Janet, Judy, Mike and their families.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "Come to Me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family.  Aunt Doris will be missed by many, but we have the comfort in knowing God's promise that we will be with our loved ones once again. Our memories of Doris will remain in our hearts and get us through these days of grief with peace.

Eldon, Doris' youngest brother, Linda his wife, Jim Smith Doris' second youngest brother, now deceased, and his wife Joane visited Doris and her family and her sister Ethel in Imperial Beach in 2004 and 05,  We had such a wonderful time.  Spent many hours sharing stories of days gone by, laughing, crying and reminiscing over old pictures.  Many memories of times in Iowa, Colorado, California.  Especially our family visit in 1948 in our old 38 Studebaker with a carload across the Mojhave, no air conditioning, radio, canvas bag hung on the radiator.  Such are the memories.  

May you take comfort in knowing there is one more angel above us
