Jane was the 2nd of five children of Helen Collins (Bollin) and Leo P. Collins. She graduated 2nd in her class of 42 from Mineville High School in 1937 where she lettered in basketball and tennis and had great fun cross country skiing and ice skating. She graduated from the prestigious Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in 1940 and began her career as an Industrial Nurse at General Electric. When the war broke out she joined the US Navy as a Lieutenant, JG and served until 1945 as a Senior Supervising Nurse at Naval Hospitals in Norfolk, VA, St. Albans, NY, and Farragut, ID. She met her husband Thomas P. Golden at Farragut and married in 1945.
In 1946 Tom and Jane moved to San Diego and raised 4 children: Michael P. Golden, who predeceased her, Peggy Cling (Pete), Thomas J. Golden (Susan King), and Kathleen A. Golden. She had 5 Grandchildren: Molly Messenger (Brent) and James P. Cling, who predeceased her (Peggy and Pete), Kevin Golden and Sean Golden (Thomas and Susan), and Xiu Mei Golden (Kathleen). She had one great grandchild: Jett Messenger and another on the way (Molly and Brent).
Jane lived a long and full life. Her interests included gardening, golf, swimming and reading. She particularly enjoyed reading the NY Times and a crossword rarely puzzled her! She enjoyed politics and lively discussions of current events. She volunteered for many years as a Pink Lady at Mercy Hospital, was active in the San Diego County Bar Association Auxiliary and was an early volunteer member of Common Cause. Jane’s greatest joy was her family and friends who will miss her tremendously.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 10:00AM at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers to Mercy Hospital Volunteer Program.
