On Thursday, Glen L. Bohnsack of El Cajon passed peacefully at the age of 96 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio. He played right end for the Scott High School football team.
He enlisted in the 107th Cavalry Regiment Service Troop 7th Corps on January 6, 1941. He spent a year at Camp Forrest, Tennessee. After Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, he was stationed at Fort Ord, California.
On January 28, 1942, he married Donna Lawton in Salinas, California.
In April, 1942, the 107th went mechanized. Glen departed for Europe on September 29, 1944 and returned to the US on October 20, 1945. He was honorably discharged October 24, 1945.
Glen joined Pacific Telephone shortly after, starting in the garage and working his way up to motor vehicles purchasing agent for Southern California and the surrounding areas. He retired from the company after 34 years.
Glen enjoyed fishing and spending time at Seaforth Landing. He and Donna spent many years traveling in their trailer to Oregon and across the country. He loved meeting the Chase Avenue PTA gang for lunch. He was an accomplished artist. He was a true patriot, who loved God and his country. Glen believed in doing what was right no matter what.
His drive and his strength will always amaze us.
He joins Donna, his wife of 59 years, in heaven. Survivors include sons James Bohnsack and Thomas Bohnsack and wife, Rebecca, of California; daughters Carol Bohnsack and Susan Pitman of California; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
