In the morning of July 24, 2014, God held Grace’s hand and asked her if she was ready to go home. She looked around and saw her family together enjoying breakfast, laughing and talking. She turned and told God, yes I’m ready. They will be fine.
Grace is survived by Frankie her husband of 55 years. In addition, her mother Mercedes Alvarado Velasco, brother Luis Cazares Alvarado, sisters Elvia Rucker, Pilar Velasco, Angela Brosz, brothers Leopaldo Velasco, Rene Velasco. Grace’s first priority was spending time with her family! She loved boogie boarding, spending hours in the ocean waiting for the perfect wave. Grace and Frankie enjoyed spending time at Barona. A stand-out moment always to be remembered by family was when she won her first jackpot and how excited she was to have won. In her spare time, she would paint ceramics and make floral arrangements for her family and friends. Grace and Frankie enjoyed tending to their flower garden and sitting under their orange tree relaxing and eating oranges. Grace enjoyed traveling. She went on many cruises around the world. Other favorites included camping at the beach, and cooking with her family. Grace was a dedicated Charger and Padres fan…win or loose! She would watch the games with her jersey and baseball cap on yelling at the T.V. jumping up when the Chargers made a touchdown or when the Padres scored a run.
For anyone that may have visited or called at 10:00 a.m. Monday thru Friday for the past 50 years, you would find Grace faithfully watching “THE PRICE IS RIGHT”. Finally, after 49 years of watching the price is right on T.V. , in 2013, Grace heard those famous words live “COME ON DOWN” when she had the opportunity to visit a live taping of the show!
Another highlight of her life, and proud accomplishment, was obtained on October 18, 2000, when Grace became a U.S. citizen. It was with much pride that she enjoyed saying "I’m an American citizen."
