Ida was born in Mangaldan, Philippines to Benedicto and Maria Magdelena Dizon on May 15, 1943. As a teen, she moved to Guam and graduated from George Washington High School. In 1971, she married Mariano. They lived in Yigo, Guam, lovingly raising their three children. After working 30 years as a sales clerk at the Navy Exchange, she retired and moved to San Diego, California, where she continued to enjoy a fruitful life.
Ida was a devoted wife, loving mother, gracious grandmother, caring sister, and an adoring aunt. A second mother to some, she was always there and willing to lend a helping hand to those that needed it. Regardless of any difficulties, she remained kind, loving and caring.
Ida enjoyed food and loved cooking for those dear to her. She ensured that there was food on the table and that everyone who came into her home was fed as it was the simplest symbol of love. Family often requested for her chicken tinola dish, but was better known for her kuchinta dessert.
As her cancer took a stronger hold, she never lost track of the traits that defined her. Her resilience after 20 plus years of battling remissions and recurrences gained her a new trait, that of being a fighter. Even as her strength waned in her final days, she would try to get up and walk, eat as much food as possible, or join the family at the dining table.
Isidra Dizon Apilado passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2020 as she was surrounded by the love of her family.
