

Jim MacDonald, 84, of La Mesa California, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday July 15, 2016 at La Vida Real. Born in Alhambra, California on Feb 27, 1932 to James and Marion Pratt MacDonald.
Jim grew up in Alhambra and joined the Navy after high school where he served 2 years during the Korean War. He worked for US Gypsum for 2 years then got his general contracting license and moved to Concord, California. After many wet winters he decided to move his family back to Southern California and in 1973 he built and opened the first Round Table Pizza franchise in San Diego. Over the years he built many homes and restaurants all over Southern California and at one point owned 13 Round Table Pizza establishments.
Jim married the love of his life, Joanne in 1957 in Alhambra, California and were happily married for 60 years.
Jim was very community oriented and was a member of the Grantville Allied Gardens Kiwanis Club for over 40 years. He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed boating, fishing and spending time with family and his many friends.
Jim was extremely loving and proud of his son Craig MacDonald of La Mesa and his wife Carole, his grandson Tommy Hendry of La Mesa and his wife Madison. Jim is also survived by his sister Marilyn of Long Beach; as well as his many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, son, Scott and sister, June.
Jim’s celebration of life will take place Sunday August 14th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Hooleys Public House in La Mesa’s Grossmont Center. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer’s San Diego in the name of Jim MacDonald at alzsd.org
