Jimmy “Nick” Yandall , lovingly known as “Nick,” passed away on February 11, 2025, at the age of 49. Born in Aua, American Samoa, his journey began in the embrace of his grandparents, Laulu Milo and Lino Laulu, in the village of Gataivai Savaii, Western Samoa. For the first eight years of his life, he was nurtured in the traditions and values of his ancestors, a foundation that would shape the man he became.
In 1983, he reunited with his parents, Jimmy Robert Yandall and Mareta Favalu Laulu Yandall, and his siblings in San Diego, California. Though he made a life in a new land, his heart remained deeply rooted in his Samoan heritage. He carried Fa’a Samoa—the Samoan way of life—with unwavering pride, embodying its spirit of respect, family, and resilience.
Nick’s greatest devotion was to his sons, Jimmy Alan Yandall and Komasi Milo Yandall. They were his pride, his joy, and his legacy. He poured his love into them as deeply as he did his work, approaching each day with a strong and steadfast work ethic as a laborer. Through his hands, he built not just a living but a testament to his dedication and perseverance.
He is survived by his beloved siblings: Ivona Yandall, Ruta Hurt, Mareta Sia Yandall, and Alan Yandall. Each of them carries a piece of his heart, his laughter, and his unwavering strength.
Jimmy “Nick” Yandall was a man of honor, family, and tradition. His presence was a steady light, and his absence leaves an unfillable space. Yet, in the echoes of his laughter, the lessons he imparted, and the love he gave, he remains eternal.
Rest well, Nick. May the winds carry you home to the shores of your ancestors, where the ocean sings your name and the spirit of Fa’a Samoa welcomes you with open arms.
