

He was born on June 5, 1944 in Colton, California to his parents Jose Rubio and Ysabel Granado. Soon after he moved with his family to San Diego where he built a life for over 68 years. He graduated from Hoover High School and attended community college. During his youth he took many jobs to help support his family.
In 1975 he met the love of his life Alicia Diaz Rubio and they were married in 1976. They moved to Chula Vista in 1979 where he built a home with devoted his wife and three children Marcia, Adriana, and Jose III. He worked as a Broadcasting Engineer for NBC Channel 7 News for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, his children, his sisters, Isabel and Alma and his brother and best friend Daniel. His legacy includes his three dearly loved grandchildren, Isadora Rose Esquivel, Nicolas “Gus” Bernal, and Gialisa “Spike” Bernal and an extended family and countless friends by whom he will be greatly missed.
He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, 3 brothers, a sister and his oldest son, Anthony “JoJo” Esquivel.
Jose “Joe “ Rubio was a great man. He will be remembered the most for being a devoted Charger and Padres fan who never waivered on his loyalty to his teams. He was always a dependable friend and served as a father figure and great example of a "good father" to many. He was an exceptional brother and uncle to his nieces and nephews. He always wanted to make people laugh and his humor brought a smile to your face at a time when you needed it the most. We will never forget our “Joe”, “Tio Joe”,”Rubio”, “Tata”,”Pops” ….Daddy.
