

Husband, Father, Grandfather, Naval Officer, Religious Educator Louis Elliott Costa, Jr. was born on September 21, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina. Growing up with three brothers and one sister, he attended St. Andrews Parish High School where he graduated with the Class of 1952. He was then accepted into the College of Charleston, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English in 1956.
Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy, attending Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. There he began a 21-year adventure, traveling the world while serving his country. While stationed in Japan, he met the love of his life, Taeko, and married her on April 15, 1961. They would share their lives together for the next 59 years, until her passing in August 2020. Transferring from station to station together, they settled in Bonita, CA in 1974. It was there he resided for the next 48 years until his death on July 18.
It was later in life that he found his calling to the Church, serving as the Director of Catechetical Education for over 2 decades at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his love for his family, his Lord, and chicken.
He is preceded by his wife Taeko, and survived by his son Tony, daughter-in-law Tricia, grandchildren Heather, Caitlin, Jace, Wyatt, Samuel, and William, and his backyard menagerie of wild animals.
