Maria Socorro Winters, 66 years old, of Chula Vista, California passed away on February 6, 2018, after a brief illness. She was born in La Tarasca, Jalisco, Mexico on August 16, 1951. She married George H. Winters in 1967 and they were blessed with two children; George H. Winters II and Vickey Lyn Winters.
During this time, as a young mother at 20 years old, she also took guardianship of her 3 young orphaned siblings and raised them as her own. She helped immigrate her family of 8 brothers and sisters and almost 40 nieces and nephews. She was kind and generous of spirit and love, always giving of herself despite many hardships. After 14 years of marriage she divorced. She continued to work as a waitress to support her family over a span of 30 years. In 1982 she met Francisco P. Barreras, her partner of 35 years and father of two additional children; Alexander C. Barreras and Christina I. Barreras.
Maria's greatest joy was her family whom she loved deeply. She was also beloved by all who knew her.
She enjoyed cooking special dishes for her family: Her famous barbacoa, pozole, sopa de fideos, albóndigas, arroz con leche, sopes y tostadas de carne. In her spare time she enjoyed the outdoors; nature and fresh air.
Other favorites included lazy afternoons in p.j.'s watching movies, cuddles with her children and grandchildren, her morning pan con café, and Monday breakfasts at Aunt Emma's, crocheting and watching her grandsons play sports.
Maria was predeceased in death by her sisters Felipa Zepeda Parra and Maria Delia Molina Parra.
She is survived by her children; George H. Winters II, Vickey Lyn Winters, Christina Isabel Barreras and Alexander Christopher Barreras. In addition, her legacy of six grandchildren; Christopher Dane Winters, Terrence Jonathan Winters, Wyatt Scott Montez, Declan James Montez, Jacob Benjamin Montez and Vida Isabel Rosadillo. Surviving siblings; Ambrosio Parra, Elisa Soto Parra, Maria Jesus Parra, Jose S.Parra, Josefina Seaman and Eligia O. Venegas.
