
Marion Mae Eggertsen, 96, of La Mesa, CA passed away on November 12, 2025 following a brief illness. She was born in Long Beach, CA to George and Adele Scovil and grew up in Escondido, CA. Marion was the eldest with two siblings, Janet Simpson and Owen Scovil.
Marion went to school to become a Registered Nurse. After her children were grown, Marion renewed her nursing career and worked in the Alvarado Hospital Recovery Room..
Marion was married to her former husband Bernard J. Eggertsen, M.D. who was stationed in Albuquerque, NM where their first daughter Anne was born, and in Lexington, KY, birthplace of their son Cliff. When military requirements were complete, they moved the family to San Francisco where they welcomed their daughter, Paula. After settling in the San Diego area, their third daughter, Lynn, completed Marion’s family.
Marion was a strong and extremely organized woman who lived independently in her own home until a few days before her passing. She was assisted in her independence by her close friend and companion for 45 years, Nancy Hartmann with whom she enjoyed traveling, the arts, monarch butterflies and the beauty of nature in their respective yards. She especially enjoyed her beautiful home and its patio and garden.
Marion was a generous supporter of many local endeavors and charitable organizations;
including The San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, Reuben H Fleet Space Theatre, The San Diego Natural History Museum, and Cygnet Theater.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Janet and her former husband Bernard J. Eggertsen.
She is survived and dearly missed by daughters Anne, Paula, Lynn, her son Clifford and her dear friend Nancy.
