

Martin Patinio Oliver was born in Palo, Leyte in the Philippine Islands on November 11, 1919 to Simeon Oliver and Procesa Patinio. He was the third of four brothers. He joined the resistance in the Philippines at the onset of World War II to fight for the freedom of his country. He then made the decision to join the US Navy in 1945 and became a US citizen. He traveled around the world and served for 21 years. Upon coming to the United States, he and his wife of 61 years, Rose Riesgo Ramos, were first stationed in Rhode Island before settling down in San Diego where they raised five children. After retiring from the military, he was a civil servant for 24 years.
He was a member of the Samar-Leyte Club, the Santo Nino de Leyte Club, and the Paloanos of Southern California among others. He had a passion for gardening, cooking, horse racing, and social gatherings in the Filipino Community.
He is survived by his wife and five children; Lorraine, Mitch, Ted, Alan, and Kathy, six grandchildren; Terri, Daniel, Sean, Eulalia, Angela, and Courtney, and nine great grandchildren; David, Adrian, Tyler, Andre, Christopher, Caitlan, Eulalia, Jayla, and Ava.
He will always be remembered….we love you Papa.
