Just before 6 PM Pacific Time on November 18th, 2015, Robert James Stanovik lost his battle to
Alzheimer' Disease and passed away.
Born March 23, 1943 in Cleveland Ohio to John and Elizabeth Stanovik, Bob left the seminary at a
young age to get into college and get into the social services field. Graduated from St. Joseph’s
College with his Bachelor’s Degree. While getting his Master’s Degree and clinician’s license, spent
years practicing at Catholic Charities, at CMS and other local organizations. Towards the end of his
career, he fulfilled his career dreams when he became a member of the P.E.R.T. team with the
Western Division Police Department, analyzing and assessing potential mental illness calls.
Author of "The Caregiver's Handbook" Bob made it a point to educate as well as counsel the senior
community and those who are caregivers. Along with his colleague Ray Schwartz, Bob and Ray
started a senior peer counseling support group for the community of San Diego.
Bob had a love for the creative arts. He loved painting, photography, clowns, and making people
laugh. Wherever Bob would go, his camera was never too far from reach. He loved to capture
moments he was sharing with his loved ones. He enjoyed performing magic acts, card tricks and
would often greet people for the first time with his red clown nose to make you laugh. His outlook on
life was one of humor, teaching and unconditional love with a firm hand on what was truly important
in life ... FAMILY. After losing his wife of 35 years Maida to Cancer, Bob met and then married
Maryann Klancer on Valentine’s Day in 2008.
Bob leaves behind his wife Maryann Stanovik, his only sister Sandra Frate, his three children (Tom
Land, LaShawn Encarnacion and Sylvia Mendoza) and his four grandchildren (Thomas, Jaime,
Robert Nico, Amaya) and numerous members of extended family.
