Sammie Lee Williams, age 69, a longtime resident of Chula Vista, California passed away on Saturday May 1, 2021. Sammie was born July 20, 1951 in Newton, Georgia and grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As a young adult, he joined the United States Navy which led him to Chula Vista, California.
During his Navy career, he met and married the love of his life, Thelma in 1975. Sammie and Thelma welcomed the first of three children, Samuel II in 1981; followed by Sondra Monique in 1982 and Ashley in 1988. Sammie remained in Chula Vista after the Navy and began his long and fulfilling career at Naval Air Station North Island before he retired in 2019. When Sammie entered heaven on May 1, 2021, he was once again reunited with his loving wife.
Sammie was the life of the party. His dynamic personality would make others gravitate towards him because of his infectious laugh and caring nature. He was the one you could depend on to be supportive, get things done and to have a great time. Sammie enjoyed playing cards, fishing, pool, basketball and listening to music. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, Gentle and Ethel, his brother James Earl and wife Thelma. He is survived by his six siblings, Gentle Lee, Nathaniel (Brenda), Leon (Annette), Darnella (Clyde), Helen (Preston) and Cynthia, all from Fort Lauderdale, Florida; three children Samuel II., Lakeside, California, Sondra Monique, Chula Vista, California and Ashley (Challis), Loganville, Georgia. Sammie leaves behind three grandchildren, Tara, Samuel III, Emily Rose and two great grandchildren, Jake and Ella along with tons of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss him dearly.
