Thomas Mallare Kondik, Jr., born June 19, 1977, in El Paso, passed away suddenly on February 14, 2026. Though his life was cut far too short, the love he gave and the lives he touched will endure forever.
Thomas was raised in San Francisco, where he built the foundation of the warmth, loyalty, and resilience that would define his life. He later returned to El Paso, where he graduated from high school. Following graduation, he answered the call to serve and joined the United States Army, proudly dedicating himself to his country. His time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty, strength of character, and commitment to something greater than himself.
After his service, Thomas pursued his passion for caring for others. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and went on to serve as a Registered Nurse for over a decade. Nursing was more than a profession—it was a calling that perfectly matched his thoughtful, generous, and compassionate spirit. He made a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues through his gentle care and steady presence.
Most recently, Thomas made his home in San Diego, where he continued building friendships and community wherever he went. A social butterfly by nature, he could walk into any room and leave with new friends. He was also a proud member of a Masonic lodge, embracing the values of brotherhood, charity, and integrity that aligned so naturally with who he was.
Affectionately nicknamed “Mott” by his niece Camille—who, as a little girl, couldn’t quite pronounce his name—the nickname stuck and became a symbol of the closeness and joy he shared with his family.
Thomas was thoughtful, considerate, loving, and endlessly generous. A true gentle giant, he gave the very best hugs—steady, reassuring, and full of heart. He was resilient in the face of life’s challenges, always putting others’ needs before his own. He loved deeply and fully, especially when it came to his beloved daughter, Leia Hope. She was his entire world, and his greatest joy in life was being her father.
He is survived by his daughter, Leia Hope; his siblings Theresa, Liberty, Gloria, and Mark; his cherished nieces and nephews; extended family; and countless friends who were blessed to know him.
A lifelong Star Wars fan, Thomas also proudly supported his favorite Bay Area teams: the San Francisco 49ers, the San Francisco Giants, and the Golden State Warriors. Win or lose, he cheered with loyalty and heart.
Thomas leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, service, and unwavering devotion to his family. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that his kindness, his humor, his incredible hugs, and above all, his love for Leia, will live on in all of us.
He will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and never forgotten.
