William “Bill” L. Hixon (also known as Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Bill, and Sweetheart…), a much-loved Imperial Beach local and community leader, passed away suddenly on June 6, 2011, just shy of his 78th birthday. Bill was born to Walter and Gladys on June 10, 1933 in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. He was the only sibling to younger sister Joyce Kazmierczak.
Bill was a family man and never parted from Harriet, his wife of 49 years and the love of his life, without saying “I love you” accompanied by three kisses. His six children: Cheryl, Judy, Bill Jr., Deborah (d), Lisa and Cyndi adored their father. He delighted in his 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Bill proudly served his country during the Korean War onboard the USS New Jersey from 1952-1954. Bill Hixon donated an immeasurable amount of his time to the City of Imperial Beach. Some of his proudest achievements and honors include: President of Kiwanis Club of IB, U.S. Open Sandcastle Days committee member and vendor chairman, President of the Imperial Beach Chamber of Commerce and founder of the Boys & Girls Club Feed the Kids and Seniors Too Thanksgiving dinner.
Bill’s generous spirit, sense of humor and devotion to friends and family will not soon be forgotten. His life was full, his laugh was infectious, and his legacy will carry on.
A community memorial will be held July 6th at 6:00 pm at the Boys and Girls Club in Imperial Beach; military honors services will be held July 7th at 11:00 am at Miramar National Cemetery. All are welcome.
