Our beloved Donovan went home to be with Jesus on Monday, May 9, after a long, courageous battle with heart disease, at the age of 8. He was a handsome boy with sparking blue eyes and wavy blonde hair, a smile that melted our hearts. His true beauty, however, came from within. Even though his physical heart was sick, the heart of his soul was brave and strong, loving life and people without fear or reservation. He made friends of complete strangers at parks, playgrounds, restaurants, and even farms, telling one animal 'Hi piggy, I Donovan!' Doctors and nurses were drawn to him, often visiting him during their time off. Our family and friends are better people for knowing him, as he gave us a renewed sense of compassion for the sick and weak, love for people no matter what their handicap, and the importance of a family united by their love for each other and love for Jesus. He was preceded in death by his aunts Janice Swanson and Christine Ellerbroek. He is survived by his parents Tami and Randy Scott, brothers Logan, Dylan, and Jadon, sisters Jordan, Abby, Macy, and Madeline, Grandpa Gary and Grandma Melissa Grech, Grandpa Paul and Grandma Mayme Scott, Aunt Kristine and Uncle Nathan Holl, Aunt Michelle Pabalate, Uncle Greg and Aunt Jane Hodges, Aunt Anita and Uncle Jerry Dizon, Uncle Steve and Aunt Jamie Scott, and 23 cousins and second cousins. We all loved him and will miss him immeasurably. Yet we are not without hope. Donovan knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and we know that 'salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.' We thank God for this truth, and that we will all be together again someday. Our special thanks to Dr. Ernesto Rivera and the staff at Kaiser hospital in Roseville, the surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, and staff of UCSF, and Dr. David Rosenthal and colleagues at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. Your brilliance and compassion will never be forgotten, and we are forever grateful for your care for our son. Above all, we thank our Lord Jesus for giving us almost 9 years with our sweet Donovan, for sustaining him against all odds and allowing us to be the parents of such a remarkable young man. We invite you to a Celebration of Life service at Arcade Church, Monday May 16, at 1:00 pm, 3927 Marconi Ave. In Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, please donate Legos or other toys of your choice to the pediatric units of the hospitals listed above. Thank you.
