

He was born September 18, 1937 in Evansville, Indiana. He joined the US Air Force at the age of 17 and retired from service in August 1977 after 23 years of service.
He received his AA degree from American River College in Sacramento and 2 BS degrees from Sacramento State University in Sacramento.
He is the son of May L. Gentry and Benjamin H. Hancock, who both proceeded him. He was also preceded by his brothers; John Hancock, Benjamin Hancock, Homer Hancock and a sister Betty Meredith. He has two living brothers, David Hancock of Taswell, Indiana and Jesse Hancock of Independence, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife Joanne of 49 years and daughters Marie Hancock (Misty) of Manteca, California, Donna Clegg (David) of Rocklin, California and Lori Ann Hancock of Citrus Heights, California and a son John Hancock (JoAnn) of North Highlands, California. He has seven grandchildren: Susan and Brian Clegg, Rosalina, Jose, Santos, Rebecca Lopez, John W. Hancock and one great granddaughter. His favorite name to be called was “Papa”.
Until recently, he was an active member of Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Carmichael, California.
He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the California Highway Patrol Senior Volunteers Valley Division. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus of California in which he had many achievements, but his favorite part was his leadership and work with the Knights American Wheel Chair foundation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 and a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church located at 5751 Locust Ave., Carmichael, CA 95608. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Wheelchair Foundation.
