Mary Elizabeth McDermott born May 5, 1922 in Clarks, NE and entered into rest on July 19, 2013 at the age of 91 in Carmichael, CA.
Beloved wife of the late John R. McDermott, to whom she was married for 50 years; loving mother to Peggy McDermott of Fair Oaks, CA; grandmother to John D. Sirsi of Safford, Arizona and Christine M. Sirsi Vincent of Roseville, CA.; great-grandmother to Victoria and Olivia Vincent. In addition, she leaves behind Scott Vincent, husband of Christine and other grand nephews and nieces as well. We will all remember her kindness and giving spirit. She loved her family well and was proud to be the oldest living member of the family.
During Mary’s life time she was a nurse, pre-school teacher, real estate agent but her favorite job was managing Senior Nutrition sites in Omaha, NE and Roseville, CA. She loved to knit, read books and she had an amazing green thumb. She always had a kind word to say and funny stories to tell. She was a great worrier though and put family and friends before herself. Mary was a kind and gentle soul who gave everyone she met a helping hand. She touched many lives and will be missed by her family, neighbors and many friends.
We take comfort in knowing that heaven has a brand new angel and Mary has joined her loving husband, John, once again. Her parents, Abigail Grady Ourada and Joseph Ourada of Clarks, NE., preceded her in death. Mary Elizabeth grew up in Clarks, NE and always kept a fond spot for Nebraska in her heart. At one point, her husband John, who was an attorney for the US Air Force Judge Advocate Office, was stationed at Offutt AFB in Omaha and she returned to live in Nebraska for about 10 years. Most of her adult life she lived in various places in California- Pasadena, East LA, Temple City, San Bernardino and Citrus Heights.
A graveside service was held Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Roseville Public Cemetery, 421 Berry Street, by Reichert’s Funeral Services. Father Roman Mueller of Divine Savior Catholic Church officiated. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Mary’s name to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at:
