Born to Col. Robert Charles Klotz, Sr., and Bernice Klotz on July 23, 1942 in Chicago IL, much of his childhood was spent traveling western Europe with his parents for the US Air Force. Once he got to his high school years, he and his parents established a life in Carmichael, CA. In 1960, Bob graduated from La Sierra High School in Carmichael, California. He married his high school sweetheart, formerly Janice Fae Boulding on July 27, 1963 after being together with her since they were 15.
Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1966 after receiving his draft notice. He served six years in an artillery company. Upon returning from his duty, he graduated from Sierra Jr College in Rocklin, California. He later sold real estate, worked for PG&E and Douglas Space Systems where he helped build the third stage of the Saturn rocket that helped the Apollo program go to the moon.
Bob was always a cowboy at heart. He enjoyed the outdoors, farm animals, and fresh air. In 1971, Bob and his late wife Janice purchased a small ranch in Orangevale, California where they raised Herford cattle. After a few years, Bob and Janice chose to chase their dream to be small business owners. In the summer of 1972, they opened a Purina brand feed store called Sunrise Ranch Supply in Citrus Heights, California. In 1978 he and Janice opened a dog and cat boarding facility called Shadow Creek Kennels, on their ranch. A few years later, they opened a U-Haul dealership at the feed store. As time went on, the family opened 2 other Purina brand Feed Store dealerships throughout Northern California. After selling the feed stores and the family ranch, Bob retired. During this retirement time, Bob volunteered with the National Wild Turkey Federation, an outdoor conservation and hunting heritage organization. That volunteer service worked into a 16 year career working in partnership with the NWTF and the California Department of Fish and game as the state’s wild turkey trap and transfer specialist.
Bob loved hunting and fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Friends and family would gather around the dinner table for tasty food and stories about his travels. He regularly played his accordion at family Christmas gatherings. Bob was an avid John Wayne movie buff and he also enjoyed watching NASCAR races on tv. Many weekends were spent with his grandkids attending their various activities. Some of Bob’s best times were the times spent around a warm stove or campfire, whether that was at deer camp, dove camp, fishing trips, camping trips or just simply out by the fire pit in the back yard with friends and family. He will be greatly missed!
Bob is survived by his 3 children: Rob, Tim (Amanda-daughter in law), Angela, and (Dan-son in law). He enjoyed 5 grandchildren: Garrett, Emma, Carson, Landon and Maddy.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 am on March 10, 2022, at Mount Vernon Memorial Park & Mortuary, located at 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA 95628. Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life immediately following the service at Randy Peters Catering and Event Center, located at 105 Vernon St., Roseville, CA 95678.
