December 27, 1931 - October 29, 2024
Citrus Heights, California - Zoe Sugar passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2024, at the age of 92.
Born in Stockton to the late Paul & Dorothy Faight, Zoe grew up in a multigenerational household. Her maternal grandparents, John and Belle Dragoo (Patterson), and her aunt, Martha Ann Patterson, were loving influences in that early home. Throughout her entire life, Zoe expressed love and gratitude to these elder members of her family.
Zoe took pride in preserving her family history. Among her ancestors were members of the Stephens, Townsend, Murphy party–the first wagon train to reach Sacramento over the Sierras in 1844. A boy in that wagon train, Isaac Patterson, would become the father of Zoe’s beloved grandmother, Belle. Zoe’s Dragoo ancestors included French Huguenots who helped settle early America in the 1600s, and on her father’s side, a veteran of the Union army.
Zoe graduated from Sacramento High School, which she attended with her future husband, Victor Sugar, a baseball player of local renown. After graduating, they married in Reno, squeezing in a ceremony before Victor deployed to the Korean War with the U.S. Navy. They had four wonderful children: John, Dave, Steve, and Patti. Zoe dedicated much of her life to raising her kids and building a marvelous family.
Always patriotic, Zoe voted in every election she could. After retiring from Sacramento Radiology, she visited major US historical monuments.
Zoe is survived by her son John, son Dave and his wife Patty, and daughter Patti and her husband Dick; her grandchildren Michael, Jarod, and Daniel; and her nephew Patrick and his wife Debi.
Zoe will be joining her parents, grandparents, aunt, and son Steve at Stockton Rural Cemetery. A service will be held at 11:00am on December 27, Zoe’s birthday.
