I loved playing trombone quartets with Billy on Friday mornings.  He was always teaching, and I was always learning.  He took me to my first international trombone festival 20 years ago.  He always bragged about his sons.  I know you’ll miss him.

I played many gigs with Billy over the years. He was always a ton of fun to be with.  And his fine musicianship always shown through. So many good memories. May he be playing in a great jazz group somewhere up there.

I’m so grateful that Billie brought so many bones together and created such beautiful 
music. George Roberts has to share the title Mr Trombone with Billie.  The best times were in Las Vegas playing with the UNLV players 2 years in a row. Carl Fontana and Rehak did the solos.  
The sound of cascading high to low bones was magnificent.  
Thanks, Billie, for so many great memories.

A great educator, mentor, musician and leader in the musical community has left us.  I spent several years playing in his ensembles and participating in his brass symposiums.  They were some of my best experiences of my musical life.  My deepest sympathy to Billy's family.  I hope that my expression of love and respect and knowing the enormity of his influence upon so many others provides some consolation.  Thank you Billy.  You were one of a kind and will never be forgotten.
