Fannie Angela Gaspard
October 23, 1937 – April 28, 2023
With profound sadness we announce the passing of loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched. Our mother left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Daly City, California. She was 85 years young and was born October 23, 1937, in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of Alvin Hamilton Sr. and Florrie Garnett.
After her graduation from Dunbar High School, Washington DC in 1955, she married Robert Lewis and to this union they had 7 children. In 1967, Fannie moved her family to Altadena, California and in 1968, she moved to Daly City, California, where she resided until her passing. Fannie worked for the United States Postal Service in Oakland, California for 28 years, and after her retirement she went to work for the Jefferson Union Elementary School District for 15 years as a crossing guard and office worker. Not being satisfied with all the extra time she had on her hands, she volunteered for Kaiser Permanente in South San Francisco for 18 years as well as devoting time to the elderly. Mom made sure that her children were raised trusting the Lord and led each of them to Christ and all were baptized. Mom had a big heart, and her love did not stop at home with her children. She took joy in caring for others and instilled that power of love and empathy in all of us. Mom was a God-fearing woman and spent a great deal of her time in Church. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Pacifica, California for many years and then joined Calvary Hill in San Francisco. Mom was very instrumental and active in her ministry. She was the Church Treasurer, Choir Member, Bible Study Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Nursery Helper, Food Pantry Ministry and also led and planned many special events. Our mother would always say, “Volunteering is the price you pay to occupy space on this earth.”
Fannie was predeceased by her father, Alvin Hamilton Sr., mother, Florrie Garnett, brothers, Alvin Hamilton Jr. and Douglas Hamilton. She leaves to celebrate her life: Sons Everson Lewis, Michael Lewis, Jerrell Lewis, Carlton Lewis, Levon Lewis; daughters, Evangeline Lewis-Cade, Evonne Lewis; brother Raymond Hamilton; grandchildren Angela Lewis, JoVon Lewis, Michael Lewis, Lamar Lewis, Diesha Boyd, Jason Grier, Janelle Mitchell and Gabrielle Lewis.
Fannie also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, friends and family.
