

passed away peacefully on Oct. 7, 2022. Marie was a truly wonderful person, much loved by her
family, many good friends, and former students.
A native of Waverly, Iowa, Marie was the fourth of seven children born to Lyle and Dorothy
Koenig Ormston. She was the dear stepmother of Sandra Marine, Suzanne (Nate) Mihara, Rick
(Raenel) Larson, and Janice Larson; and is also survived by her sister Mary (Dave) Beidelman
and brother Dick Ormston; she was a beloved Special Aunt to Kathy (Dan) Boeckman, and Kay
Larson as well as the devoted aunt and grandmother to four generations of nieces and nephews;
eight step-grandchildren, and eight step-great grandchildren.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, two nephews, and her beloved husband,
Bill Larson, whom she referred to as the “love of her life.”
Marie was an outstanding elementary and music teacher for 40+ years. Her love of education was inspired by her kindergarten teacher. Marie never wavered from her teaching goal, and after
graduating from Iowa State Teachers’ College, she began her teaching career in LaPorte City,
Iowa. She taught from 1959-1989 in Redwood City, California. Even after she retired, she
continued to focus on helping children understand the importance of a good education. In later
years, she reconnected with former students, some of whom she had taught as far back as 1959
and 1960.
She had a life-long love of music, and was well-known for her piano playing ability.
Marie was also a world traveler who visited and explored countries such as China, Morocco,
Ireland, and Australia, to name a few.
She will be remembered for her dedication to education, generosity, intelligence, kindness, love of family and friends, and her adventurous spirit.
Marie’s memory will be cherished by many people who loved her and she will be greatly missed.
In accordance with Marie’s wishes, graveside services have already been held.
