On September 3, 2020, at the age of 68, William Chew passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He had been bravely battling Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma since 2012, but ultimately, it was a recent liver cancer that took his life.
William Tom Chew was born on March 7, 1952 in San Francisco, California to Roger Chew Hom and Jow Woon Chow. He spent his childhood in the Menlo Park/Atherton area before his family settled in Milpitas. As the fifth of eight children, he was taught from a young age the importance of family, and he loved nothing more than spending time with them. He often recalled times on the family flower farm, working with and playing pranks on all his siblings and cousins.
In his thirties, he met his wife, Daisy. Through numerous long distance letters, they fell in love and were married in April 1985. Their family grew with the additions of three daughters: Amy, Karen, and Cheryl. Even though he was outnumbered at home by all the women, he proved to be the one person that tied the family together, always there to take care of each and everyone of us. Whether it be car help or skincare needs, he was the person to call. Not only was he a sweet, funny, and caring man, he was extremely hardworking, having devoted over 30 years working for the United States Postal Service.
A lover of cats, reusable bags, Home Shopping Networks, good deals, and Youtube, William will be tremendously missed.
In addition to his wife and daughters, William is survived by his son-in-law Sean, brothers Richard, Frank, George, John, Peter, and sister Elaine. He was preceded in passing by his father, mother, and brother, Robert.
The funeral service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park on Friday, September 18, 2020. Visitation will begin at 1 PM, but due to COVID-19, capacity will be limited in order to comply with state and county social distancing guidelines. To ensure everyone gets a chance to participate under these circumstances, his service will be livestreamed as well. If you would like access to the stream, please reach out to the family.
