Betty Morris Dockrey, 88, Colorado City is together again with her husband who entered heaven’s gates in September of 2015, she passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Betty was born on February 20, 1931 in Colorado City to Albert and Gladys Roney Morris. Betty was a woman who lived a simple yet faithful life devoted to God and family. She was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church in Colorado City where she was active for many years working in the nursery and serving her Lord and Savior. Betty married her high school sweetheart Charles Dockrey and they devoted their lives to finding ways to fall deeper in love every day and to raising their family strong in faith and family values. She taught her family that living within their means was a true gift and that made them truly rich in love. She taught her children to cook, clean, and how to sew, and when needed made sure they knew right from wrong. Her home was the place where all of her children’s friends wanted to go because she and Charles were the “cool parents”. She would always have after-school treats and words of advice or encouragement for those that came by. She was also an amazing cook, but when it came time for a recipe it was always “some of this” or “a little of that” because she had the recipe in her head and not on paper. She was a true blessing to those that knew her and her dedication to God and family is a legacy that will be passed through many generations to follow. Betty is survived by her sons Bruce Dockrey and wife Marsha of Colorado City and Rodney Dockrey and wife Sharon also of Colorado City and by her daughters Rhonda May and husband Thomas of Hermleigh and Latisha Dockrey of Colorado City. She is also survived by her grandchildren Bryant Roberson and wife Sandy, Jody Chaney and husband John, Jamie Hammond and husband Kyle, Tabitha Stone and husband Jason, and Lacy Oden and husband Blake, as well as by her great-grandchildren Seth, Maysan, Sadie, Ethan, Jaxon, Karoline, Kinslea, Preslea, Taelyn, Bransyn, and Alyssa. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Charles Dockrey, by her brothers Preston and Price Morris, by a sister Cleda Goswick and by a grandson Brad Dockrey. A funeral service for Betty will be held in the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 6th at 2 pm with Doctor Jerry Shields officiating with burial to follow in the Colorado City Cemetery. The family will be present at the funeral home on Friday July 5th from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial donations in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. Dear Dockrey family,

I am so sorry that my mother and our family could not be at the services for Betty. We came to know and care about Betty and your family when mother became her roommate at the nursing home. Even though she could not communicate verbally, we hope that she knew that we cared about her and enjoyed seeing the canvassed picture of all the great grandchildren on her wall each time we came to visit. Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers. She will be missed.

God bless you all,

Debby Carlock

Aunt Betty and Uncle Charles were like second parents to me. I could not ask for anyone better to be there for sharing both the good times and the sad times. It is sad to no longer have them here on earth but it is also wonderful to know that they are now together again in Heaven.
