

He was a lifelong resident who was born in Colorado City on May 22, 1954, to J.H. and Ester Pearl Jones Guelker.
After graduating from Colorado High in 1972 Carl married the love of his life Sue Henderson on April 21, 1973, and quickly when to work fulfilling his life passion to be a farmer and rancher. Carl quickly made a name for himself in the local farming community and people all around came to not only love him but to depend on him. Carl earned back-to-back awards in 1988 and 1989 for being Texas Farm Bureau District 6 Outstanding Young Farmer and Rancher and at one point together with his family won Farm Family of the Year. He was a member of the 1st Ag Lead Class, past president of the Mitchell County Livestock Association, and board member of both Cotton Incorporated and Texas Farm Bureau.
Carl had many milestone achievements in life but the most important to him called him husband, dad, or friend, as he had a heart full of love. When Carl was not on the ranch, he loved to spend time with his daughter and to spend countless hours giving back to the community that he loved. He was a County Commissioner for over 20 years and spent many years as a volunteer fireman, including as 1st Assistant Chief for the Colorado City Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed mentoring younger up and coming farmers and ranchers as he was a wealth of knowledge. In his spare time Carl enjoyed golfing and watching football. He will be missed by many.
Carl is survived by his wife Sue Guelker of Colorado City, by his daughter Cheyenne Olive and husband Bob of Stamford, his sister Genia Conner of Owasso Oklahoma, his sister-in-law Debby Guelker of Colorado City, and by his beloved companion Gus. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents J.H. and Ester Guelker, by his brother Tommy Jay Guelker, and by brother-in-law’s Kent Conner, and George Robben.
The family will be present for a visitation on Thursday, September 18th from 5-7 pm in the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
A graveside celebration for Carl will be held in the Handley Cemetery at 10 am on Friday, September 19th with Dale Sheets, Mark Sheets, Mickey Neff, Haden Walters, Tommy Morris, and Wylie Oliver as pallbearers and Raymond Martinez, Manuel Gonzalez, and William Gene Hanks as honorary bearers.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch, 1265 US-180, Rotan TX 79546, or to any of the fire departments in Mitchell County.
