Mrs. Carol Mooney

She was born on December 29, 1942 in Rotan to the late A.K. and Alma Riggs Matthies.

Carol was a Bookkeeper by trade working at several area businesses keeping their books, most recently for Joe Morren CPA in Colorado City. She married at the age of 15 to her first husband Wayman Leverton in September of 1958, together they raised their 2 children Darrin and Sonya. Many years later in July of 1986 Carol remarried, this time to the love of her life Charlie Mooney who preceded her in death. Carol was all about family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She enjoyed family gatherings, watching her son and son-in-laws coach their sports teams, but most importantly watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sporting events and other various extracurricular activities. In her spare time she enjoyed working in her garden, studying family ancestry and working with fabric. In her younger years she was quite the skilled seamstress, making several articles of clothing for family and friends. In her later years she turned to embroidery and quilting, making several quilts for her children and grandchildren. Over the years she instilled much wisdom to those that she loved and the lessons taught will be cherished for many years to come.

Carol is survived by her son Darrin Leverton and wife Sharron of Colorado City, by a daughter Sonya Dunn and husband Billy of Tyler, by grandchildren Mindi Vick and husband Casey of Mineola, Haley Stanley and husband Landon of Mineola, Kirk Leverton of Colorado City, and Alyssa Neal and husband Cameron of Flint, TX, and by great-grandchildren Laynee, Maddox, Jaxen, Brixton, Leighton, and Hendrix. Also surviving is her sister Addie Markham of Weatherford, her fur baby Grundy, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents A.K. and Alma Matthies, by her husband Charlie Mooney, by daughters Laura Leverton and Lynn Leverton, by brothers Carl Matthies, Melvin Matthies, John Matthies, and Calvin Matthies, and by sisters Christine Sanderson and Paula Matthies.

Private family services for Carol will be held at a later date.
