Charlie Ortiz

He was born in Edinburg, Texas on May 9, 1972, to Carlos and Lucinda Navarro Ortiz.

He graduated from Colorado High School in 1991.

Charlie was a beloved father and grandfather whose heart overflowed with love for his family and friends. He held many jobs throughout his life, but the majority of his career was spent working as a corrections officer for TDCJ. He had a lifelong passion for cooking for family and friends, which he shared with the community by taking his turn owning the family restaurant, The Cold Spot. He was the type of man who worked hard and played harder. He was naturally funny and always seemed to crack a joke at just the right moment. Those who knew Charlie knew that in his spare time you could find him either cheering on the Dallas Cowboys or grilling and playing his music loudly. He also loved to play pool, camp, fish, and catch up with friends. His passion for life and for all those that he loved will be remembered fondly.

Charlie is survived by his children: Briana Covington and husband Cole of Colleyville, Whitney Ortiz and fiancé Aaron Palacios of Lubbock, Shelby Ortiz of Lubbock, and Chris Ortiz of Lubbock, from his marriage with Carrie Blair Gutierrez; Caylee Ortiz, Casey Ortiz and Zoe Cigarroa, and their mother Kimberly Johnson of Big Spring. He leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Ayden, Asher, Mason, and Leyton. Additionally, he is survived by his mother Lucinda Ortiz of Colorado City, by sisters Lorie Lindsey of Colorado City, Cheryl Scott and husband Danny of Anna, several nieces and nephews, and many other dear family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Carlos Ortiz.

A celebration of life for Charlie will be held at the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 6th at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Dennis Pevehouse of Lubbock will officiate the service. Christine Pevehouse will read his eulogy. The family will greet guests from 10 a.m. until the start of the service.
