He was born on July 12, 1956 in Menard to Robert and Maria Pena Rodriguez.
Gilbert, affectionately known to all of us as Grandpa, loved the three grandkids he raised more than anything in the world. He encouraged them to chase their dreams and supported them 100% every step of the way. He loved being at their games, much like he did his daughters and watching them grow into the people they are today.
He enjoyed fishing and could cook with the best of them. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do; from mowing lawns to building and painting just about anything someone could dream up. He also enjoyed sitting down with a good cup of ice to eat.
If you were blessed enough to have him as a friend, you were family in his eyes. He loved with everything he had. Gilbert was proud and felt truly blessed to be a part of the Westbrook community for many years.
Gilbert is survived by three daughters: Tracy Rodriguez of El Paso, Yvonne Rodriguez and wife Monica Camacho of Lubbock, and Kelly Rueda of Hobbs, New Mexico, as well as by his grandchildren Mica Rodriguez, Landon Rodriguez, JoJo Rodriguez, JobeAlek Rodriguez, Gilbert Acosta III, Nicholas Schaeffer, Aubrey Shaffer, Brandon Shaffer Jr., Evan Rueda, Eryk Rueda, and Ezme Rueda, and by great grandchildren Aiden Rodriguez and Kyson Rodriguez. Gilbert is also survived by siblings June Rodriguez of Bakersfield California, Dario Rodriguez of Fort Worth, Manuel Rodriguez of Lovington New Mexico, and Francis Munoz of Hobbs New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Maria Rodriguez, by a daughter Z’Anna Rodriguez, a brother Josa Agapito Rodriguez, and by a sister Linda Rodriguez.
As was Gilbert’s wishes there are no services scheduled at this time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kiker Seale Funeral Home.
