Helen was born April 19, 1926 in Loraine, Texas to Odessa and Cecil Miles. She was the eldest of four children. She attended school in Mitchell County and graduated from Colorado High School in 1944 and went on to attend Texas Christian University. She ran into a former classmate John Morgan while they were both working in Kermit, Texas after WWII. They soon married on April 24, 1948 and started their life together in Colorado City where John worked for Texas Electric Service Company.
Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an avid reader and passed along her love of literature to all of us. She also made sure that we spoke the King's English correctly. Double negatives were not tolerated. Proper spelling was also a focus. Mom is responsible for our prodigious vocabularies due to her cross-word puzzle addiction. Mom was the librarian at Hutchinson Elementary for years and passed on these traits to many students.
Mom was a "responsible" person. She was the room mother, the Girl Scout leader, the church committee person and also was the librarian for the First Methodist Church Library. She served on the Boards of the West Texas Girl Scout Council and the Mitchell County Historical Society. She and Dad hunted arrow-heads and had quite a collection. She worked on many class reunions and, family reunions. She and Dad boot-scooted across Texas at many senior citizen dances. She and Dad were so different and she played straight-man to his comic routines and according to Dad she was "The Chairman of the Board"
Mom's last years from 2006 to the resent were marked by many health issues and she was bedfast from 2012 to the present and lived with her daughter Linda. She was cared for by her daughters but was visited daily by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and various pets. We are grateful for the kind care provided by Mom's current caregivers Esther Vasquez, Paige Gunset, and Jennifer Scott. Special thanks to Dr. David Kerr, the excellent nurses on Medical 3 (your kindness was so appreciated) and Joani and Jeff Stewart for many kindnesses over the years. Mom was blessed to be so loved by so many and she will be missed by all of us.
The family welcomes friends on Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Bass officiating. Burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery. All services are under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home
