Janie was born on June 14, 1929 to Preston (Dick) and Ethel Erwin Thompson in Mitchell County where she spent her entire life.
Janie was a no non-sense type of person who was born during the great depression which is why she learned to be frugal. She attended Colorado High School and graduated in the class of 1946 and was proud to be the daughter and granddaughter of the Cuthburt Community Pioneers. After graduating Janie went to work as a bookkeeper for the Guitar Gin in Colorado City, but she never let her work interfere with the most important thing in her life which was being an outstanding daughter, mother, and grandmother.
Janie Sue is survived by her daughter Sue Guelker and her husband Carl of Colorado City, her granddaughter Cheyenne Nichole Guelker also of Colorado City and by two cousins Emma Hopper of Colorado City and Neta Terry and husband Bob of Morton.
A graveside service will be held in the Handley Cemetery on Monday, November 30 at 2pm. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 29 from 3:30 to 5 pm at the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may make a donation to either the Colorado City Fire Department of the Westbrook Fire Department in Janie Sue’s memory.
Online condolences may be left at www.kikerseale.com .
