She was born in Colorado City on August 27, 1933 to parents Lawrence and Addie Mae Barbel Candler.
JoAnn was a fun loving kind soul who would have you laughing if you had the ears to listen to her. In her younger years JoAnn was a hard worker and held many jobs, her happiest times working were in Williams, Arizona and in Odessa, Texas. Her many jobs included doing bookkeeping for several businesses, working on an Indian reservation, and working for Harold Farb, a world famous property owner in Houston as one of his property managers. She was proud to have lived such a long and vibrant life full of love and joy as her parents both died at a young age.
In her later years JoAnn loved to tell stories about almost anything, but especially about her life experiences and her many travels, since she loved to drive all over the country, which she did several times. She also enjoyed going to the library, watching westerns and Walker Texas Ranger, and going on road trips with her best friend Artha Hales who took care of her right until her final day. The two would travel here there and everywhere, just to go. She also enjoyed going out to eat, and her favorite part of the meal would be dessert, especially if it was chocolate cake as she had a sweet tooth.
JoAnn is survived by her sister Eva Mathis of Woodlands, Texas and by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Addie Mae Candler, by husbands Henry Smyth, Earl Brooks, and Maultrie Carl Fisher. She was also preceded in death by her brother Jim Candler and by a sister Bobbie Jean Lucas.
A graveside service for JoAnn will be held in the Westbrook Cemetery on Thursday, January 16th at 2pm.
In Lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Westbrook Cemetery Association.
