Lorene worked for many years for the J. W. Adams family and the Valley Fair Lodge. Lorene bore 11 children whom she loved very much. She loved her family and always encouraged her children to love one another. Family was very important to her. Lorene’s favorite time of the year was the annual Lidy/Scott Family Reunion because she enjoyed seeing her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends eating, playing and laughing together.
Lorene became a member of the body of Christ in 1981 and served at the Dallas and College Street Church of Christ.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Dave Scott; a daughter, Carrie Lewis Jones; four brothers, Curtis, Dave, Eugene, and Roy and six sisters, Minnie, Darlene, Roosevelt, Mary Lee, Maxine, and Ruby and eight grandchildren, Rosemary, Cynthia, Janet Jackson, Jessie Tyron, Jr., John Ridge, Mark and Bessie Lewis and Robert Shoals (Junior). She often commented that all of her sisters and brothers were gone and that she loved them no matter what they did or said.
Left behind to cherish her memories are 10 children, Jessie Ridge (Paul), Betty Bradley, Robert Shoals, Tommy Bailey (Debra), Darlene Thomas (Robert), Minnie Tyron (Jessie Earl), Myrtle McGee, Maxine Goodman (Lee), Edward Warren Jr. (Patty), and Michael Scott, Jonita Shoals Scott, and her first namesake, Lorene Scott Winston; forty-six grandchildren; eighty-five great grandchildren; twenty great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever remember “Mama”, “Big Mama”, “Aunt Lorene”, and “Miss Lorene”.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday at 22nd and Austin Street Church of Christ with Brother Ulis Johnson officiating with burial to follow at Mitchell County Cemetery. Services under the care of direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
