

Mary Louise Piehl Ellis was born on August 31, 1925 in Amarillo, Texas to William and Ellen Carter Piehl. She grew up in the panhandle of Texas and attended West Texas College to earn a degree in home economics. After graduation she moved to Snyder, Texas as a county extension officer. She married Ather F. Ellis of Dunn, Texas on December 5, 1948. They raised their daughter and two sons in Colorado City, where she continued to live until her death on May 19, 2021.
Mary taught school in Westbrook ISD for 15 years. She volunteered with the “Pink Ladies” through Mitchell County Healthcare Volunteers for more than 20 years. She was active in the Garden Club and Mitchell County Retired Teachers Association. She spent many hours playing Skip-Bo and Spinner with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She spent countless hours cross stitching beautiful pieces for many that she loved. She and Ather were active members of 22nd and Austin Church of Christ. They also enjoyed time working in their home garden and fishing at Lake Colorado City.
She is survived by her sons, Bill Ellis and wife Fay of Colorado City, and Jack Ellis and wife Lisa of Gruver, Texas. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer Lyles and husband Bryan of Amarillo, Texas, John Chinn and wife Kay of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Jeremiah Ellis and wife Jenny Lynn of Farmers Branch, Texas, Marybeth Roberts and husband Driftin of Gruver, Texas. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Helen Piehl of Bushland, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ather Ellis, parents William and Ellen Piehl, sister Lois Sanders, brother Bill Piehl, daughter Marilyn Chinn, granddaughter Alexandra Ellis, and great grandson William Ellis.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 24th, at 9:00 am at 22nd and Austin Church of Christ, with the service following at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Dunn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Chinn, Ray Ellis, Terry Haggerton, Jeff Ellis, Don Fox, and Dan Fox
