She was born in the Dorn Community on July 19, 1937 to Buck and Erlene McCullough Dorn.
Vesta was a charismatic woman with a vivacious and loving spirit, and she was a proud Christian who would profess that she was Jesus Bound. She was the typical farm wife, always making sure her chores were done, and her family was taken care of, including 3 full meals a day, even if she had to take the plates to the field. She was a great wife, mother, and grandmother, loving her family with all her heart, even when she disagreed with them at times. She was very giving and patient but did not let those traits make her hypocritical as she always stood on her morals and faith. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with family and being a crappie slayer, out-fishing everybody who she knew.
Vesta is survived by her husband Jerry Bowen of Colorado City and by children Connie Padilla and husband Ruben of Houston and Shelia Redwine and husband Gary of Colorado City, by grandchildren Kassi Redwine and Hannah Padilla and by great-grandchildren Jackson Redwine and Phoebe Foneteno. She is also survived by a brother John Dorn and wife Kitty of Pampa and by a sister Liz Hodge and husband Jesse of Whiteface, as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Buck and Erlene Dorn, by her first husband Curt Shaw, by children Letha Shaw and Tony Shaw, by a grandson Coleder Redwine, by a brother Clarence Calvin Dorn, and by sisters Billie Wood, Wanda Hill, and Catherine Leach.
A funeral service for Vesta will be held on Friday, July 11th at 10 am at the Dorn Chapel Methodist Church with Mike Hill officiating, burial will follow in the Dorn cemetery with Gary Redwine, Jackson Redwine, Jon Shaw, Chris Dorn, Thadd Hodge, and Fred Wood as Pallbearers and Ruben Padilla as Honorary Pallbearer.
