In his earlier years he started out in the oilfields of East Texas. When he decided the oilfield was not for him, he found his calling working with his hands and became a master carpenter. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix, build or create. He traveled a lot - everywhere from North Carolina to the shores of Biloxi to the Vegas Strip constructing casinos, houses, and buildings that people still enjoy today.
He loved his life and his family. He truly enjoyed family get-togethers, holidays, and motorcycle trips. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life, and having a great-grandchild took on a whole different meaning.
Upon retirement, he made his home in Colorado City to be closer to his family and help his brother around what was known by the family as the "compound". To have known him was to have loved him. He will be greatly missed.
William is survived bu three children. Angela Martin and husband Gary of Colorado City, Shane Smith of Goldsmith, Courtney Smith of Kilgore, and their sister, Samantha Smith of Odessa. Also survived by two brothers, Waylon Waits and wife Brenda of Houston, Walter Smith and wife Tracy of Colorado City, and two sisters, Sue Copeland and husband Johnny of Overton, and Mable Thomas and husband Bill of Odessa. Ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A going home ceremony will be held on Monday, May 27 at 2:00 PM at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home of Colorado City, Texas. The family will accept friends on Sunday evening from 6 unti 8 PM at the funeral home.
"William, Willy D., Daddy, Brother, Pops, Papa", you left us too soon, and we weren't ready to let you go. You were tired, and now you are pain free and at peace. You will always be in our hearts, and our bright star in the sky.
