

Columbia, South Carolina - Visitation for Betty C. Coleman, 91, will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel on Saturday, March 26th from 5 -7 p.m. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Park (Garners Ferry side) on Sunday, March 27th at 1:30 p.m., with a memorial service at Shandon United Methodist Church (3407 Devine St) at 2:30 p.m., with a reception to follow in the Wesley Fellowship Hall.
Mrs. Coleman died peacefully at home on March 23rd surrounded by several loved ones.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina; she was the daughter of the late David Albert Cannon and Janie Lou Lester Cannon. She was a graduate of Dreher High School and Palmer Business School. After marrying Jerol K. Coleman, Sr. in 1957 and having four children, she enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church for over 50 years and a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class. She also taught a children's Sunday School class and enjoyed the United Methodist Women (UMW) circles. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 6 and the Travelers Protection Association (TPA). She was also an honorary member of the Columbia College Alumni group. Later in life, both Betty and Jerol got their real estate licenses and worked with John V. Green Realty and Bob Capes Realty. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who instilled the importance of family.
Mrs. Coleman was predeceased by her husband of almost 55 years. Surviving are her children: Libby C. Kelly of Columbia, Ken Coleman (Diane) of Elgin, Lou Garner (Tom) of Tampa, FL, Edwin Coleman (Crystal) of Columbia. Grandchildren: Adam Coleman, Janie Garner Lopez, Becca Garner Johnson, Matthew Coleman, and Andrew Coleman; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings: Virginia Cannon Allen, Dixie Cannon Aho, A. Lester Cannon, J. Ralph Cannon, and Harold T. Cannon.
