

COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Betty Wilburn Huneycutt, 94, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2021 at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Huneycutt passed on from this life Saturday, December 4, 2021. Born in Union, SC, she was a daughter of the late Toy E. Wilburn and Annie Estes Wilburn. She finished two years at Spartanburg Junior College then received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1948 at UofSC. Betty met Dwight Jackson Huneycutt there and they married in 1949. She taught school for one year then started raising her family of three girls. Later, she worked for SC Employment Security Commission as a claims clerk. She was the longest standing member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served on many committees.
Betty was a great seamstress who loved to craft, knit and crochet. She brought joy to everyone around her as she hummed and sang quietly while she worked on projects for her family and friends. She and Dwight loved to travel. They visited 30 states and various countries around the world. She enjoyed watching and identifying birds and loved flowers so much, she would stop on the side of the road to dig up special wildflowers for her garden.
Surviving are her daughters, Sande Shuman (Tom) of Knoxville, TN; Jane Coker (Anthony-predeceased) of Columbia; SC, Missy Atkinson (Steve) of Ninety-Six, SC. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dwight Jackson Huneycutt and her son-in-law, Anthony Coker.
