
COLUMBIA – Beverly Melton Trammel, 86, died Thursday, December 24, 2020. Born on January 2, 1934 in Columbia, SC she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Henry Melton and Mary Jane Irby Melton. She was a graduate of Columbia High School where she was editor of the school newspaper. Beverly graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in journalism. She then worked as a reporter for the Raleigh Observer. Later, she returned to work as a puppeteer in the Lowcountry of SC. She went on to work for Belk’s Department Store in the advertising department as a copywriter. Prior to retiring, she was the Student Information Secretary of Richland School District One. She was a lifelong member of Centennial Association Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Thomas B. Trammell, Sr.; daughter, Laura T. Smith (Kenneth L.) of Columbia, SC; son, Tommy Trammell (Patti) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; and grandchildren, Kenneth Maxwell Smith (Chrissie), Robert Benjamin Trammell, Lucas Dillon Smith, Michael Austin Trammell, and Mary Cartland Smith.
