

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Bright Livingston Stevenson, Jr., 84, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at the funeral home.
Mr. Stevenson died Thursday, February 4, 2016. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Bright L. Stevenson, Sr. and Edna Staton Stevenson. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired as owner of the Coronet Motel with The Circus Room and The Lantern Room. He was known for his delicious steaks. Later in life, after retiring from the restaurant business, Bright Jr. became heavily involved in wildlife and land conservation. Bright was a former member of the Eastover Ruitan Club, lifetime member of Columbia Ducks Unlimited and member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church.
Big Bright as he was known to many was an avid hunter/gamesman, who worked building custom hunting rifles for friends. He was also a boat racer having won many races and championships. He was also involved in preserving wildlife habitat and herds.
Surviving are his son, Bright L. Stevenson, III of Breckenridge, CO; daughter, LaDawn Stevenson of Dillon, CO; grandson, Gunnar Johnson; brothers, Jimmy, John, Billy and Bobby Stevenson; and sisters, Mildred Lomas and Iris Waters.
He was predeceased by sisters, Frances Scott, Billie Carolyn Stevenson, Doris Stevenson and Alida Armstrong.
