

Carol Spencer Parrish was born on November 22, 1928 in Greensboro, NC. She was a daughter of the late Robert Vernon Spencer and Mabel Williams Spencer. She graduated from Curry High School of Greensboro in 1945.
She moved to Savannah, Georgia with her family because her husband got a job there, and later the family moved to Columbia, SC.
Carol went to work almost immediately from high school and she worked for 30 years for Southern Bell/AT&T. Twice she was named Outstanding Performer for Region II of AT&T Consumer Sales & Service.
After retiring from Southern Bell/AT&T, Carol started working for Dr. David Meadows DDS, as a receptionist for 5 years. She also was a Realtor for Russell Jeffcoat.
She was a member of Trenholm Road United Church and the Medlock Sunday School class. When able she loved to attend worship services and Sunday School. She enjoyed volunteering in the church kitchen. She faithfully did her devotions.
She was a member of the Emmaus of the Midlands and loved to go to the monthly gatherings. She was the oldest member on her Walk and everyone was looking out for her and she loved the attention they paid her.
Carol was a loving and caring person to her family and friends. She loved to chat with people and cheer them up. Even when she was bedridden she remained cheerful and loved to make people laugh. The nurses and aides loved her and were saddened to see her pass on.
Carol was predeceased by her parents and two sons: James Irwin and Allen Fredric and her former husband, William Fred Parrish. Surviving are her daughter Bernita P. Shepard and special friends and caregivers Sharon and Tim Lentz.
She had been a patient at NHC Columbia since June of 2022 until her passing on August 12, 2024. A special thank you to the nurses and aides for how they attended to her on the day of her passing. Their thoughtful and loving support to us on the day of her death helped relieve the stress of the day. Caris Health Care of South Carolina provided Hospice service to Carol the last few months of her life. The family wishes to thank them for their care.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2024 in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens.
