

COLUMBIA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Cecil L. Davis, 89, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. Cecil passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Derrick Shade Davis and Carrie Outlaw Davis. He graduated from Lower Richland High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Davis used the G.I. Bill to open Cedar Terrace Radio and TV Shop, he later went to work for Sears and Roebuck, Jim Walter Home Builders, and then retired from the United States Postal Service in 1987. He enjoyed gardening, was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since 1948. Surviving are his sons, Daniel R. Davis (Valorie) of Chapin, Bob M. Davis of Columbia, Ron J. Davis (Deb) of Mt. Pleasant, daughter, Sandra Davis Riddle (Danny) of Walterboro; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Collins Davis; daughter-in-law, Phyllis C. Davis; great-granddaughter, Emily Davis; siblings, Owen Davis, Marceline McLean, Frank Davis and Bonnie Walker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Building Fund, 3600 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205.
